Our (Paradox) Generation
an awk hint
-
Why do we enjoy Facebook,
Everyone’s Internet “Lover”,
When we are taught as young children
Never to judge a book by its cover?
Do we choose to discriminate only on appearance,
While true meanings bounce off us like rubber?
-
Why is it called Myspace?
The thought of it makes me sore,
When we fill the page with things made by others
Is the site REALLY yours?
Do you need a username and password
To unlock your own bedroom door?
-
For those of you who use Twitter,
I ask why you are a fan,
Of merely words that appear next to a picture
Of a woman or a man?
If I put a picture by my poems,
Would it help you understand?
-
Why do we go on YouTube
To view videos of our peers
Fighting, Hurting, and Abusing each other,
And reward them with “hits” and cheers,
And a video of saving someone’s life
Gets deleted within a year?
-
I think it’s a shame we turn
To machines when we have nothing to do,
Posting and absorbing meaningless content
To brighten our day, or get through,
But at the end of it all, we’re both hypocrites.
