Flying Lessons

You’re gone.
Dead.
Missing.
Only a memory of what we were,
Imprinted on my soul.

I can’t recall your taste.
Or your smell,
Smile
Or voice.
But you’ll always stay with me.

I’ll never lose the way,
 You made my heart sigh inside.
Or the way you made my bones turn to silk.
Or the way my whole world imploded when I saw you.

I’ll never forget the feel of your chaste kisses;
Lips moving on lips.
Or the feel of your touch;
Ghost hands dancing on my skin.

Who you were.

That belongs to me.
You took my heart, my love,
My life, my dignity,
Myself.
But I took what was rightfully mine.

Your soul.
The boy you were.
The man you were going to be.

I’ve locked Him away in my hollow heart.
And I’ll never let Him go.

Maybe someday,
When the memory of your love has rusted away.
I’ll let Him out.
I’ll let Him soar.
Higher and higher.
Till He reaches the sky,
Spreads his wings;
And learns to fly.
Then,
Maybe then,

You’ll learn to love.
