There is in the middle of a breathtaking wood

A tree of exquisite splendor

That legend, they tell,

Through an uncommon spell

Housed a nymph of mischievous manner

The tale also tells of the name of that spirit

The naughty and bratty Envidia

A beautiful ghost,

She punishes those

Who dare or would want to displease her

On a lackluster evening Envidia came down

From her perch high above the treetop

When she saw a strange sight

In the dark of the night

A cluster of little white snowdrop

She called to a sparrow and told it to harvest

The flowers that grew in their bed

The bird disagreed

To do such deed

For picking them would mean their death

Envidia was angered and shut up the sparrow

In a horrible cage with no door

And Envidia then took,

Like a merciless crook

The buds from the forest floor

For a day she admired the blossoms she gathered

But when daylight gave way for the eve

The snowdrops drooped low

Like the sparrow said so

That Envidia would never believe

Envidia then took what remained of the blooms

And returned them to where they had come

But they were not the same

She had no one to blame

But herself for the life that had gone
