" HAVE YOU BEEN TAGGED? "
( Life lesson on quality vs equality )
I was browsing In " Pennys Department Store," looking for a pair of pants for my daughters birthday. I was totally shocked, at the prices. I dont understand, how using less material can cost so much more money.
My daughter is a size three, as I am a size fourteen. Her pants were ten dollars higher than mine. " Does that make sense to you? "
Needless to say, I bought those pants, because i knew she wouldn't wear anything less. After all its her birthday, and I love her very much.
So I put the pants I wanted back on the rack, and checked out. The store clerk rang me up, " that will be $ 37.50, please." I handed her the money. With good intentions I thought, " my daughter needs to gain some weight."
Driving home, a Wal-Mart sign caught my eye, and gave me an idea. I parked, and took out the designer pants I had just purchased at " Pennys."
I examined the quality, and design of them, then went inside Wal-Mart.
Going through numerous clothing, I finally found a pair, that looked simular to the designer pair.
The price of this brand was $12.00 cheaper. I paid for the pants, and headed home. My idea wasn't intended to hurt my daughters feelings,if she should discover my little plot. It is just something I feel necessary to prove to myself, that we " the consumers," are being hog tied, and robbed.
Making it home i put the two pair of pants in my sewing room. " Great! " My daughter wasn't home, so I went through a box of clothes we were to donate to charity. I carefully removed the designer tag from them, and put the pants back in the charity box.
I went to the sewing room, and locked the door. I compared the two pair of pants, " perfect! " I patiently removed the the tag from the pants I bought at Wal-Mart, and carefully sewed the designer tag on them.
I held them both up, and " presto! " A brand new pair of designer pants.
" Now, Now! " I know what you are thinking. Mom is playing a trick on her daughter. That is'nt my intentions at all. I just want to prove a point about quality. The equality about it is.. The designer tag.
The first thing a consumer looks for on a pair of pants, is'nt the size. They look at the designer tag. Their not comparing the quality of the pants. They wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of Wal-Mart pants.
My daughters birthday had finally arrived, and she started opening the gift I gave her.
Her eyes widened when she sees, she got two pair of pants. I watched as indeed, the first thing she did was look at the tags.
" Yes! " She screamed. " Thanks mom! "
I sat there feeling so ashamed. Theres no way I could spoil her happiness. That was one thing I would have to carry to my grave.
Weeks have passed since my daughters birthday, and she proudly wears both pair of her pants. She shows them off to her friends, and my little secret is safe, at least it was until now.
So beware girls. If designer quality is what your hoping for, and prices keep soaring. Then maybe, just maybe. You've been tagged...
