As soon as I walked in, I could smell them. The hundreds of thousands of books. Old books, new books, even books not yet put on shelves. There was something about the smell of them that enticed me. Each book with its own sense of being. Its own personality, its own meaning. Every single one had a special place from someones heart. There were people quietly sitting. Their minds lost in yesterdays. Another time, another place. It was easy to get lost in someone elses imagination. There were books perfectly lined across the shelves. Maple wood seperated their genres in alphabetical order. The many colours of the books covers, lay across the room like a rainbow. I found myself in the romance section. There were so many, I couldn't choose just one. So I took three off the shelf. The librarian sat quietly at the counter. Her glasses sitting on the edge of her nose. She looked up from her magazine, " just three today, miss." I told her yes, handed her my library card, took in one last breath of the books, and left.
Christine Barber was eighteen years old. Her blonde hair, which was over due for a touch up, lay flat against her back. Her blue eyes, the colour of the sky, sparkled in the lamps light. She relaxed and leaned into her book. Her faded bluejean cover-alls hid she dainty body. She was totally getting into the romance story. After three chapters, she decided to leave the library. Her rose coloured lips, shined with gloss. She smiled at a guy as she passed, who was reading a book titled, how to meet beautiful women.
Christine could get away from reality for a time. Each book took her away to another place, another time. She could put herself in the characters place. Wheather it be a good romance, or an adventure. She loved the feeling of being a part of someone elses imagination. She felt the emotion of each character. She imagined it was her the cute guy was holding. Her lips he was kissing. It made her feel loved. Tears filled her eyes when the story was sad. She laughed when the book revealed something funny. The books were a part of who she wanted to be, and for a little while. They were a part of her.
I HOPE I DID THIS RIGHT!
