Man can only do so much to restrict criminal activity. They don't tell you about the things that aren't under their control, such as the mind. How can we be protected from something we can't physically restrain? That's what this poem explores.

Cerebrum Asylum

A cell is for the purpose of separating minds,

Those of the insane and then the rest of humankind.

The pernicious and the petulant bounded by metal bars,

Though that stops the actions, what about the other half?

The cerebrum of a killer,

Or indeed just you and I,

Has two sides of a set-script of which we must abide.

Imagination and ideas still stir around their minds.

You think you're safe?

That's not the case,

For at this time their minds still race.

Locked away,

Kept at bay,

They're saving it for another day.

You think you're safe due to some cells?

Can't you hear those warning bells?

That's your initiative calling,

It wants its logic back.

Oh, how your perspective lacks!

No metal could bound a mind of mayhem,

Or protect the children’s lives.

You're not taking anything away from them,

You're just giving them more time.

Time to think.

Time to plan.

Time to not be sane.

You're feeding up the devils kids with three square meals a day.

A cell can contain a body,

but it does that and nothing more.

For the minds of the criminals still parade in paradise,

Where the cuffs can hold no more.

Out of reach by your material reality is an external world,

Where there are interconnecting criminal minds.

They meet once a week through a common hospitality,

At a place that resembles a house of insanity.

They lavish in time and drink the blood of the dead,

Out of crystal made glasses,

Their sentence that passes,

Means another cocktail of pre-ordered bloodshed.

Their cerebrums create an asylum you see,

A macabre building filled to the brink,

With rapists and killers who toast as they drink,

To the freedom of thought,

Granted when given a cell.
