True Darkness

When people look for evil they look in the shadows hidden amongst the darkest of places. They don’t think to look in their homes, in their lives. They want it to be distant, avoidable. Not so close they can sense its presence, all consuming and daring, a silent yet deadly darkness that lives among us, nestled in our lives, forever waiting for us to see it, embrace it, give into the depths of its darkness. Forever there, the guilt that we ignore because we don’t want to admit it, the secrets that we keep locked away, vowing to take to the grave. It’s the things we do behind closed curtains that make you wonder how well you really know your neighbours. The person you thought you knew but didn’t, ignoring the signs because you wanted so desperately for it not to be true. Its denial, lies, secrets, anger and so much more darkness than anyone can imagine. No matter how much you ignore it, push it to the back of your mind, refuse to acknowledge its existence it’s still there, forever waiting, intertwined with our lives and our very existence.
