Wednesday Morning Cafe

Wednesday moring cafe

Tea's just arrived, toasts on the way

Half a pack 'o smokes

Left over from the night before

You say you got the blues doll

Worryin over whether or nots and all

My guess' it's lost now

Back to the way it was before

You gotta quit starin at the ground

The answer certainly ain't between your shoes

Shoes that this morning are dirty

But last night cleanly danced all over the floor

You sound like a lost little girl

Waiting for daddy to whisk you away

But nobody's coming for you

I can be your walking cane

But I can't show you the way

Your looking for answers

That are impoosible for me to say

Don't try to tell me that you care enough to love me

Don't make me listen to words

Don't say the things you think I want you to say

Last night was just one more

Just like all the other ones before

Your lungs now empty make your excuses too sore

I just can't listen all the time

Like when you shout "In or out!"

When I stand at an open door

I made a promise to walk away

When I felt the air get cold

But here we sit

Freezing on a winter morning

You repeating yourself sensless

And me pretending to listen

You are the one who always chooses

And I the one who always refuses

You're missing the point, neither one of us is ever right

In fact we're both wrong to let this thing live

But our insecurities make this a thing that will not give

The sight of you naked

Now reminds me of sleep

Sex only passes the time

And it irritates me when you weep

It's a musical hand taken to murder

As I look at you now, I musn't look like much

Such things as "I'm leaving" must be said

But I look through your eyes

And say I love you instead
