Puppet fences in the backyard.

Swiss family Robinson high in the tree.

Picking berries and leaves.

Our childhood feast.

You watch behind the glass

Fashioning beautiful things

Your smile letting me know

Safety

Freedom

Love.

Weekends at the pool

When the ocean was too hot

White sunblock of SPF love

Rubbed into my face

Wax pushed into my ears

All ready to splash and play

Tangerine tree in the back

Right next to the honey suckle

Tiny bits of sweetness dropped in my mouth.

Jasmine growing on the fence

Aloe to sooth my burns

But watch out for the cactus!

On the path to the front door.

Kiki the hunter,

Goes after another bird.

One day a possum family

Crunching away on cheese crackers.

A pool of tadpoles

Grows tails and hops away.

And the lizards watch it all.

My childhood crucible

Limited to daylight hours.

The periphery of the yard.

Extended with your love,

Our collective imagination

My memory.
