Slice

A sharp silver blade slices into my skin

What I wouldn’t give for you to know the pain I hold within.

Bright red blood seeps down my arm,

Oh what great relief it brings to cause myself harm.

All the around me the night is pitch black

Yet I know that tonight there will be no man with a sack.

Childhood stories no longer run true,

All the hopes and dreams of Christmas, all the happiness, all the “I love you’s”

Have been sucked away by the past,

Forever hidden by my mask.

All pain and grief are hidden,

Never to be seen again, kept deep within.

No more than you see of me exists,

To you there are no beatings with a whip.

No abuse, no bullying, no sorrow,

All you see is the happy child who never thinks about tomorrow.

You would say my life in today is bliss,

If you knew the real reason you would simply hiss.

Hiss at the secrets, hiss at the darkness, hiss at everything that you mistook as gladness,

While everything that remains remains embedded in sadness.
