The sniper shot his deadly bullet;

It flew through the air with ambition-

It did not miss his aim.

Its cold hands burrowed down through his chest

And found his warm heart, which it silenced,

Never to beat again.

His proud body collapsed from that shot;

Proud to be fighting for freedom's hope,

Proud to have fought for love.

Blood streaked on that love-strengthened soldier.

It ran down his body as red tears,

Never to flow again.

His cold hard body, o'er wave, o'er break,

Traveled over the sea towards home.

His soul is finally free-

Free of the bleak and the dreary sands.

He sails home once again; into arms,

Open arms, one last time.

For two hard months his family suffered.

For two long months they cried and they mourned...

'Til something came to them.

Tucked away- saved- in his laptop, came

A letter torn from his heart of hearts,

Reaching ears to be heard.

"On April 13th, 2004,

"I thought that I was going to die."

His one single regret?

"I hadn't spent enough time with you."

He had no regret in crossing seas.

"Everyone dies, but few do for freedom."

Note: This is a true story of Jeffrey Starr who was employed in Iraq three times. He was shot by a sniper bullet, and his body was sent home. Two months later, his family received his laptop in which was contained a file labeled, "LetterHome."
