“You look like you could use a drink.” he said softly. “Can I get you anything?” I knew better than to say no. You never say no. I nodded silently, and he stood up from his chair, leaving the room. Alone once more. I waited patiently for him to return.

“You didn’t get into any trouble while I was away, did you?” he asked. His voice sent chills up my spine. I shook my head, still saying nothing. He extended his arm as if to hand me the glass of water he had prepared for me.

“Oh, silly me,” he said with a chuckle. “Where are my manners?” He lifted the glass to my mouth and let me take a single sip before pulling it away and setting it aside. “Not too much, my dear,” he said with a wide smile. “We have a busy day ahead of us.”
