Relaxing over a drink of an evening my mind escapes.

In finer, less troubled moments

I sometimes like to drum the four fingers of my right hand upon a hard object

in tumbling flow

a table,

an emptied glass of good quality

or my knee bone

and after years of practice

I've got it down pretty well

so that when I close my eyes

I can imagine vividly

a majestic horse in full flow

driven on by a valiant hero

pure of spirit and mind

on a mission of haste he rides

to deliver a message of the up most importance to life

and liberty,

or racing on to the waiting, embracing arms of his lover

or to rescue that same lover from the clutches of marauding barbaric hordes

the thumping of the hooves

the flame from the nostrils

the steam bellowing off the neck and buttocks

triumphant main blowing in the wind

tail like an arrow, straight and true

as clumps of grass and mud are strewn

flying high on either side

of its beautiful, brutal and powerful hide.
