She walks

hands on her hips

feet swollen and each step seems so painful

But still she walks

stopping only for a few seconds to breath, maybe groan

sometimes bent over then taking a deep breath she starts again

I can here her soft groans

and I place my hand lightly on her back

She stops for a few seconds and breathes

each step heavier than the other

each step closer

She breathes

She cries out and I know she is almost there

My hand still light on her back must feel like weights now.

She knows that pain is a must

she knows all the pain vanishes quickly

She waited a long time to walk this journey

to come to this point

Mama holds her hand and shakes her head reassuringly

she knows it would be all right

mama walked this walk before her

Nana too

now she must walk the walk

the walk of mothers, maybe one day i would walk this walk too
