Ode to a Cuckoo Clock

O Cuckoo Clock

Suspended by some friendly hand

Secured, fastened for your task an everlasting magic

Locked by time a slave to circular motion

Moving hands of lifeless gestures occurring for another purpose

Oblivious to your needs

Your tiny sounds remind

Your gentle features are kindly to the eye

A fleeting glance is all you take as time goes by

But what sinister vision do you see

As pendulum swings

And weight is beckoned by gravity

What escape do you imagine

As your captive bird performs its ritual function

O Cuckoo Clock

Your master calls

On all your bretheren locked on walls

With all your wisdom and intricate grace

What’s the bloody time?
