THE MAGICAL NIGHT

It was a beautiful, clear night

And myriads of stars

Pierced the indigo heavens,

Their combined pinpricks of light

Twinkling like precious stones,

Diamonds in the sky.

The full moon donated its reflected light

To the slumbering earth

Creating a pattern of ghostly shadows

With its strange, pale glow.

Few people were about

During this magical time.

Most were sleeping,

Unaware of the splendour

Visible only on such a night.

But some creatures stirred.

Along the leafy avenue of trees,

Preferring to be cloaked in darkness,

Small, whiskery animals scuttled.

Fearing exposure, they darted

From shadow to shadow.

Only a faint rustling betrayed their presence

As they foraged among the grasses.

Unknown to the sleeping masses

A different world existed

In the witching hours,

But the moon and stars began to fade

As a new dawn broke on the horizon,

Birds sang their morning chorus,

The hustle and bustle of daily life began once more

And the magical night was over.
