Like a whisper, you were there

Holding my throat, reciting in my ears

Songs of love, poems of eternal life.

Like a thought, you crept inside

Around my head and trapped within my mind

You were it; with you I was alive.

Alive enough to die.

Like an angel, you took my hand

Promising peace in ever shifting sands.

You were the warmth, the heat beneath my skin

Like a devil, you were there

Caressing thoughts of living without the fear

Of loving you and my own darkness within.

Until my skin caved in.

Like the trust you severed then

I took my bags and shoved my heart inside

Nowhere to go, no reason to stay.

Like a soldier, I limped away

Head held high and spirits drifting low

Sights trailed on you, should you ever say

Come home.
