This is the preface to the novel that I posted called Teardrops In The Snow. So, this is an optional read, just a little extra to the actual story.

Preface

Why? The word hung in the air. Why him? Why me? Why this?

I've done this for 18 years. I've looked into their eyes and was the last they saw. I could walk away without looking back, and feel nothing.

But as I look through these eyes, deep pools of blue, looking just as deep into my own, I think, the eyes are the windows to the soul. He could see mine, as well as I saw his. We knew we both thought and knew that this shouldn't have happened. Simultaneously we wondered who would strike first. Who would stay loyal, and who would betray their own heart. As we hesitated, I remembered the good times we had together. Then I remembered what I had to do, and what would happen if I didn’t.

"I want you to kill him." Shadow Dragon told me.

I can’t let him down. Too much is at stake if I do, and I owed Shadow Dragon too much. He was the first to care for me, and the worst. But my love, the man on the other side of my sword, the one who unlocked the stone that was my heart, is the one I must end. I had to end the heart that was my other half. I needed to decide. So I did what I had to. I closed my eyes and prepared to strike my beloved.
