This is a poem I wrote at 20, 5 years after losing my mother to breast cancer. I cried before the last line and have never edited or revisited this work. I hope anyone who has lost a loved one can identify and see others have gone through mourning as well.

It's been five years:

Since we last spoke

Since you held me close

Since I've seen your eyes

Five years, and time flies

It's been five years:

And I still remember

Still chilling me like December

Since you've been gone

Five years .. that have been long

I miss you mother. In my tears I hope you see

I desperately need you to guide me ...
