The howling is painful. The long droning, crow of the wolves. It takes your breath away, but at the same time holds it in until your brain starts screaming. It is never ending; the howls seem to drag on for the eternity that is the nighttime.  When you listen to it, it feels as though you’re drowning in ice-cold water. It feels like your head will explode with the repetition, like a tap dripping and you just cannot turn it off. It feels like hell; flames all around and you can’t get out. It feels like longing, longing for something that feels like it will never come.

But it’s different when you’re out there with them. Tilting your head back and singing that beautiful melody that drives the unchanged world certifiably mad.

Changing for the first time was awful. Bones cracking and moving to fit around new organs. Skin stretching over a whole new body. Teeth jutting through gums and sharpening to a point. The pain was agonizing, but the loss was blissful. To lose everything that you are and become something where only the important things matter. It’s what makes being who I am so much better than who I used to be. No one really understands until they’ve been through a life so torturous that they no longer want to live as themselves. There are the ones who want to die, because their life was unbearable. There are those who want to strive forward and work through the pain. And there are those like me, who want to become a danger to the world, to get revenge on a world so messed up it decided to take me with it.
