my feet are freezing from being barefoot in the wet grass
i nod and smile when i think i should
i refuse to feel dead inside
i guess i'm taking his advice as weird as that sounds

i almost laugh as he pulls out the ole ring line
but i manage to make my voice sensible
i look at a tree in my yard
it's been there since i was happy

a little blonde girl with pretty pigtails runs up to it
she pulls off some leaves and throws them in the air
she would laugh and ask what i was crying about
i would tell her nothing

just like i do him.
no one really wants to know
and i dont really want to hear the same old words anymore
just like him, but he's always been a smart guy

he informs me that we're all better
i resign to my place again as what he's settling for
is there anything more that i want
why is contentment locked inside of him?
