There I was, standing in the church I was a member of since I was a little boy. Who would have thought I was the chosen one? I have been struggling for days with the truth after the pope anointed me to his personal army. The weirdest thing about this is that I am currently dead.

I have been told that I am an ‘Angel for the people’ or in other words, earth’s representative. I won’t be on Earth much longer apparently. It takes only one week after death for my soul to be delivered to God so that he can judge me on my Christian merits, then I will be given the stamp of approval and sent to the gates of hell to infiltrate it. I have been dubbed ‘The Saviour’ by the pope, and this is something I am ready to do for my faith.

I can feel the ground rumbling but can see no sign of movement. I feel myself being pulled away from the church and into the sky. This is it, I am about to be approved and sent to Hell. I manoeuver between clouds on my way up and have to dodge a few flocks of birds also. I finally reach the big pearly gates of Heaven. Even though I have been chosen as the Saviour, I can’t help but feel like a giddy Justin Beiber fan. My hands are sweating and my heart is racing, well I feel they should be, but my ghostly state doesn’t allow for it. I am about to meet God!

I’m guided by someone who looks like he is important, an Archangel perhaps. He looks stern and knows exactly where to find God’s HQ. He walks with a slight limp which suggests that he may have been in a few battles himself. We finally reach a room with an ordinary wooden panel door. I laugh in my head, thinking this isn’t what I imagined at all. The Archangel opens the door and stands aside for me to walk in. I hesitantly step into the room to see a man dressed in robes with grey hair. I bow down and say my prayer to God. A couple of seconds pass and the man stands to speak,

“Billy, you have been put forward as saviour of Earth. Your job will be to finally put a stop to Lucifer’s plans to destroy all that I have created. Do you accept?”

I think for one moment and say “Of course I do Sir”.

“Billy, I sense doubt there!” He bellows at me.

I am unsure of what to say so I deny it.

“Are you questioning the benevolence of God Billy?”

Before I even have a chance to speak he shouts once more.

“I smite thee Billy Connors. May you perish in Hell!”

With that I am sent hurtling through the floor and crashing through clouds. Several hundred feet distance is cut into seconds as I crash into the earth and fall through to Hells guest room. I am confused and scared at the same time. How could God have done this to me just because I was afraid? A guy walks up to me and says,

“Ahh, another fallen angel has arrived. Don’t be too hard on yourself kid, we are all in the same boat.”

The words fallen angel crash through my ears and they offend me. God has forsaken me and for what reason? I pick myself up off of the floor and run toward the gates of Hell. The others laugh as though I am mad, and perhaps at this stage I am. I don’t have the army I was promised, and I have no armour or weapons, but I will save my race with my faith.

I approach the gate and find that I am able to jump over it, almost superhuman like powers seem to have possessed my entity. I begin a straightforward run to Lucifer’s office. He has placed it at the top of a spiral mountain.  There are no guards blocking my way as I feel luck coursing through my veins. The front door is open and there is a man standing staring at me as I arrive.

“Bravo little Billy for being the first of those idiots to realise God was testing you to see how committed to your faith you are. It really is a pity the foolish old man believes you can defeat me with just your faith.”

The man laughs himself into a state and has tears dripping off his face. His tears burn his skin and are replaced with his blood dripping. He really is something to look at though. He is just a normal man, rather than the red horned devil we are taught to perceive. God was testing my loyalty and faith and I assume I have passed. I run toward Lucifer whilst he is laughing and take a swipe at him. I watch as his head snaps back and he falls to the ground. That was way too easy to be the end.

The ground starts to shake slightly as I begin to worry. The desolate, sandy wastelands start to breakthrough with grass. The gloominess disappears and flowers begin to blossom. The ground eats Lucifer’s body and spit fires him into air to the point where he can no longer be seen. I get the same feeling as in the church and find myself in God’s office once more. Next to him is the man I had just slain. They had their arms around each other in a loving embrace.

“Billy, meet my first born son, Lucy. You finally brought him back to me.” He says with tears rolling down his cheeks.

I then wake up back at home, perfectly alive and ready for a normal day at work.
