Selena sighed and let out a breath of warm air, her breath forming a small mist in front of her mouth. It was the middle of December, and she was walking home from school late at night. The only
light was the dim light providing from the fulll moon. She pulled out her cellphone to call her sister, Nicole, but saw she had no battery left. She let out a groan of frustration and saw a
Starbucks down the road from where she was standing. She pulled her plain gray hoodie closer to her and walked towards the small Starbucks shop, needing something warm. As soon as she opened the
front door, she was greeted by warmth.
Parker was working late at a small Starbucks in downtown Mooresville. There was no one at the shop, except him and a guy named Joseph. Parker looked up from his phone as he heard the front door open. A girl about his age walked in, and Parker couldn’t help but stare at the beauty. Her golden brown hair fell a little ways past her shoulders. She wore black skinny jeans and a gray hoodie, her eyes shielded by black rimmed square glasses.
Selena walked up to the counter at Starbucks and noticed the worker was staring at her. She waved a hand in front of the boy’s face and bit her bottom lip gently. “Hello? I’d like to order.” The boy snapped out of his little trance and smiled at Selena. “What would you like?” Selena told him her order. A Grande Mocha Frappuccino.
As Parker was making the girl’s order, he looked over at her. “So, Selena, what are you doing out so late?” Selena shifted her glasses so they were up to her eyes again. He noticed a book in her hands and glanced at it, seeing it was ’The Hunger Games.’ Selena sighed lightly. “I’m coming home from school. I stayed after so I could tutor a friend. My sister didn’t come pick me up like she was supposed to.” Parker finished her order and handed it to her, his number written on the bottom. “Oh. Do you need a ride or something? I mean, I’ve seen you around school an-” his words got cut off my Selena speaking.
“You’ve noticed me? I didn’t think anyone noticed me. But, sure, Parker. I’d love a ride home.”
