Restless Night

Another late night and sleep evades Old wounds reopen and tears cascade. A haunting thought and memories of you, Whispers of a battle fought, pulling me through.

Covers are flung aside And I give in to the lonely night. Reaching out for pen and paper, While the clock ticks away to a time called Later.

Settling down, trying to pen a rhyme, But the voice within whispers: “Not this time”. Restless, side to side, I begin to pace Weariness etched on my shadowed face. Without warning the madness begins, Misty thoughts of you, pulling me in.

Another trip down memory lane Brings only bittersweet pain. Too late to escape, I surrender completely To depths of untold misery.

Finally Eyes close gently and lips smile with sweet sorrow At the bitter promise of another tomorrow.
