Having children

A couple in love, did marry

Next a baby she does carry

He treats her so tenderly

Our child, what will it be

Their love starts right away

Just be healthy, they pray

For nine months they dream

Our creation together, they beam

Inside of her, it grows

Fingers, a head and toes

A growing life they made

They were excited not afraid

When delivery time was near

They held each other dear

Their love was never stronger

It would not be much longer

A baby boy was born

Very early in the morn

A son to carry name

A man destined to fame

A baby in the nest

They felt very blessed

Special he would always be

They both had to agree

With love, they smothered him

Responding to his every whim

Joy and peace abounded

A family had been founded

Their little man was almost two

When nature called, and she knew

Another child on the way

A sibling for their son, yay

This pregnancy was more a chore

With son on hand, then before

Some of the magic was gone

The lines were clearly drawn

It’s a girl, the doctor said

Tears of joy the couple shed

It was their hearts desire

They couldn’t feel much higher

The perfect family they had

A girl like mom, a boy like dad

There was always a lot to do

With baby and toddler too

The mom and dad, happy and tired

Their perseverance, had to be admired

Not much time for each other

Too busy being father and mother

I can’t believe it happened dear

I am pregnant again I fear

How can that be? We took care

It still happened, I know it’s rare

Let’s not accuse and blame

We will love it just the same

With two children under four

We really didn’t want one more

A healthy baby girl arrived

And even though not contrived

We loved it with all our heart

Right from the very start

Every child special in their own way

Like each flower of a bouquet

They get along, but have also shown

They are able, to stand on their own

*****

My own story you should know

Might just make you say, Whoa

I am the oldest of eight

Imagine that on your plate

As their first ten years passed

My mom and dad amassed

First the three boys came

Then five girls joined the game

My parents have my love and respect

They raised eight kids without neglect

We all were taught to love and obey

We are all happy dads and moms today
