Summary

A poem about a dear old friend that touched my life and many others. He is the heart of my true short story about saving two army heros from a long jail term.

Irvin Leigh Matus

By: Joe Attanasio

In 1968 he came to me, mad as hell

Injustice was in the works he did tell

Plans of the military machine

Were downright cruel and mean

He asked me to join him in a stand

To fight for the helpless, little man

He was smart and earnest with a passion

Full of resolve and compassion

He used other people’s power

To help us save the hour

He worked hard for what he believed

Results he always achieved

He was an (autodictat)

Taught himself this and that

He had a strong urge to write

He was also very bright

Shakespeare was his life

Baseball was his wife

Brooklyn was his home

He lived all alone

Often just a part time job

Research made his heart throb

Finding information to share

Digging for truth if it was there

Personal comfort mattered not

By sharing information, joy he got

Much study on Shakespeare done

His published works hit a home run

Against the Oxfordians he fought

It was the truth he really sought

Did William Shakespeare really write?

He knew he did! It just felt right

He died in 2011, just this year

He had no money, this was clear

He used it all for his cause

This makes me want to stop and pause

A man so driven he spent it all

So Shakespeare would not fall

He was a man who cared so much

My heart he certainly did touch
