Experiencing Ghost

Growing up as a kid I heard lots of scary stories. More than scaring me off it used to excite me.One question always intrigued my sense of excitement, Is there really any ghost of whom we are “supposed” to get scared? Or are all stories just made up stuff! I really didn’t know back then but now I am very certain about it.

It all started couple of months back.I was alone in the home. I live in third floor of three-storey apartment building with three other flats, all of them unoccupied. After watching a late night movie I was getting ready for a good night sleep. Just as I covered my body in blanket the doorbell rang. I was little surprised coz it was already fifteen past one in night. I stood beside the door and watched through the peep-hole. All I could see was dim yellow light on the corridor. There was no one and I really was very confused. My first instinct was some thief who must have hid beneath the peep-hole so i couldn't see him. Without opening the door I waited for doorbell to ring again. It rang again and in a flash I was again looking out of the peep-hole. No one was there.I didn’t had guts to open the door and check out who was there. He might got some weapon!I kept looking out of peep-hole with pounding heart. Doorbell rang three-four times more and I stood there frozen wondering what to do!As I again went to peek through the peep-hole someone pounded the door furiously. I took a step back. "Enough is enough", i said and sprinted to my bedroom to get cricket bat from beneath the bed. I stood firmly near the door again. One more time, you son of a bitch, I said gritting my teeth holding the bat firmly. It just took couple of seconds for door bell to ring again. I was quick enough to open the door instantly. No one was there. I was shocked. “Get out you bastard!” I shouted and waited looking down the corridor. For the first time the corridor looked so spooky in dim yellow light. Soon I heard some noise on the other side of corridor, near the staircase. I rushed to the staircase in no time leaving the door open behind me.

“Face me if you got guts you son of a bitch,” I shouted again. The next thing I saw was a shadow rushing towards the terrace, which always remained locked. The key to the terrace was with me. I rushed through the stair only to find the locked door. I was shaken. I realized I’ve left the front door open and I rushed downstairs again in panic. I must have taken five-six steps down when I heard the hissing sound of a woman behind me, near the terrace door. I glanced back to look and was shocked to see a woman standing there with hairs falling back at her face. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I took a step down but it landed awkwardly on the stairs and I tumbled down rest of the steps. I threw the bat at her in fear, but it seemed to get through her. The incident took away all my courage. Without thinking much I rushed toward the front door. I saw it closing in front of my eyes as I reached near it. I shouted in agony and began pounding the door hoping it would open up miraculously. The hissing sound of woman took my attention and I looked back through the corridor in the dim yellow light. The mysterious woman was standing at the other end.

The next thing I remember was milkman waking me up outside the house. I had black marks on my face and on my arms. I don’t know who she was and what happened that night, but I sure knew one thing, my life and my belief have changed forever.
