After seeing a competition ad I wrote this. It's based on Edvard Munch's Eifersucht (meaning Jealousy). For anyone who doesn't know it I've set it as the image. It's written from the PoV of Munch (bottom right corner) looking over his shoulder at his ex and her new lover.

Eifersucht (1896)
From the shadows I gaze
upon Beauty’s cup of desire
from which I have drunk;
from which I have breathed.
My temptress has trapped my wanting mind.
I remember when Beauty’s kiss
warmed my lips.
Her apple sweet breath caressed
my pain.
But now I fall from Grace
deeper and deeper into the untouchable darkness.
I am swallowed whole by my secret desires
into the empty pit where the blind lead the dumb
along the thorny path of temptation.
She is a bronzed beauty in a sea of golden perfection.
Leave me to drown in my despair
as I watch my future
unravel herself in the arms of another.
Isolated by the knowledge of
his hands on her supple perfection.
His knowledge, carnal and savage
sickens my depression
to its cold, dark core.
As she glances over her shoulder
I am caught
in a brief swirlpool of desire
before I crumble
with pain,
she leans
towards his lips.
Her eyes dance with the knowledge of my suffering.
The last thing I witness
before Beauty is lost to his lips
is my longing gaze reflected back
through her pools of painful perfection.
