I wrote this a few years ago. I always think of the book 'Dear Nobody' when I read it - a pregnant teenage girl coming to terms with her situation. This poem stops after blaming the world for her problems and before coming to terms with the situation.

Eternity in an Instant

I should have ran on home, Old Man.
Who knew that this day would come?
Who knew that I would stand here before you?
Once strong, once mighty
Now weakened as I look into the face
Of a thief

Not any face, your face
The face
Half man; half beast.

If I had known then the knowledge I now own
If I had realised the lies
I was told by you.
If I had realised the mistake
You would cause.

You caused my life to end
To crumble around my rotting life.
I had plans, I had dreams

No longer.

Gone is my window of options
My opportunities now are lost
Because of you.
Unable to salvage any Meaning of Life.
Unable to understand

Why?
Why this?
Why this happened
To Me?

They tell me you’re the reason,
They tell me you’re to blame.

If only I had known, Old Man,
Our eternity in that instant.
