here it is... I guess.
there's not exactly any fighting in it, but it is a breakup, and it is (I hope) interesting. there's a lot of drama.

I stormed out of the school building. I didn't care that classes weren't over. I didn't care that it was pouring outside. I just had to get away from it... away from him. "Lavender!" Nathan called after me. "Lavender!"

"Go away!" I shouted in his face.

"It's not what you think." He said, out of breath.

"It's not what I think!? How stupid do you think I am? I saw you! I saw you kissing Katie!"

"Stop! Just stop! Save it! You lied to me." Tears were falling down my face now, though it wasn't obvious mixed with the rain water. "You said I was the only one." I said softly. Nathan put his hand on my face.

"She was kissing me." I slapped his hand away.

"Stop lying! You two have been sneaking around all week!"

"No. No, you know that you're the only one for me Ava."

"No. Truth is, I've been feeling us getting more distant anyway." I looked down at the diamond on my left finger. Nathan and I had been together since the 6th grade. Now we were eighteen, old enough to get married. We were going to run away...

I stared at him, shocked. Was he really proposing? "Nathan, I don't know what to say." I said in a soft voice.

"You could say yes." He sighed. "Come on, Lavender. You and I both know that we're going to end up getting married! Why not now?"

"There's just so much. We're not even done with high school yet. And college..."

"We'll still go to college. I just want to make sure that none of the other guys get any funny ideas." I laughed. He could make me laugh at any time, even when his jokes weren't funny. "So, what'd ya say that after graduation, you and I take a detour to city hall. We get jobs in college and once we get our degrees, run away. Our parents won't know what hit them."

"I don't know..."

"Come on!"

"What will we do?"

"Well, whatever you want." He got up. "We could travel the world." He twirled me. "The Eiffel Tower at night in Paris," He grabbed me by the waist, picked me up, and spun me until I was dizzy. "A boat ride in Venice..."

"How will we get the money?"

"We'll figure it out. And we don't have to travel. We can stay right here in this little town. Just as long as you're mine..." He grabbed my hand. "Forever." I smiled. He got back on his knee. "So," He said. "Lavender Maria Kelly, will you marry me?"

"I...I don't know." He laughed a little.

"I'm making the grand gesture and all you can say is 'I don't know' ?"

"Well, what do you want me to say?"

"I want you to say yes."

I had a vision of us in twenty years. We were in the countryside of France, holding hands on the porch as our children played around. The little girl with his eyes, the little boy with mine... I smiled. This could very well be my life. With the man that I unquestionably loved. I gave in. "Yes." I said, and pulled him in for a long kiss.

"You and me, Ava." He said, sliding the ring onto my finger. "Forever."

Now I was back to the present, though I was still looking at my ring. "Forever." I repeated with a sad smile. "If only..."

"I'm sorry. I wish I could say that nothing was going on but... I can't lie to you. Katie's been catching my attention. And I still love you to death, but I need some time to get over her. Because I know I can, and I know I will."

"It's okay. I need some time to think things through too." I slid the ring off my finger, opened his palm, placed the ring in it, and gently closed it around the diamond. "Hold on to this for me." I said, and kissed him on the cheek. "I'll be back for it."

I started to walk away from him, but he called out to me. "You and me, Lavender." He said with a sad smile. "Forever."
