I lay on the damp ground surrounded by fields of wild flowers. The sky above was as blue and clear as I had ever seen it; the summer sun shown down, warming my slender body draped in a simple green tank top and denim shorts. I let the grass tickle my bare feet as I lay gazing upwards at the beautiful masterpiece I was a part of.

Strands of my black hair were tousled by the wind as I sat up, taking in the rainbow of colors which lay before me. I felt at peace as I had never before, and I could honestly see the happiness trickling from my pale skin. But it was not because of the great view I was witnessing.

It was the man with blond locks which almost fell into his deep brown eyes so much like my own gazing upward as he sat by my side. His strong frame relaxed by the gentle breeze as he smiled, noticing my eyes had shifted his way.

So new was the idea of being married to the man I had been in love with the better part of my 25 years that every time I laid eyes on him I replayed the entire wedding in my head from about month or so earlier. His smile was all it took to draw me in. As I began to lean towards him he pulled me in closer, engulfing me in yet another of his marvelous kisses I was sure would never grow old.

His lips on mine was the most thrilling sensation. The miles and miles of beautiful fields which stretched far out from where we lay could not even begin to compare to the allure of his kind heart and all the joys brought forth with it. Our lips parted slowly, each wanting more yet both wanting to gaze at the other. Our hearts thumped fast, bursting with new love.

As his brown eyes starred into mine I couldn’t help but blush and look away as I often did when I could not find words to say. He laughed whole heartedly, the sound echoing within me sending chills down my back in utter amazement of his exceptional beauty in so many ways.

**************************************************

Though now we both are adults with jobs and things to take care of the fields have a way of making us forget it all. With our son off at his first day of high school, and our daughter staring her last year of elementary school we feel the sweet calmness of the wild flowers swaying as we lay in the fields watching a single white cloud move across the sky.

He holds my hand as we lay in silence as we always do. Something about the place has a way taking away our speech and leaving us only with our hearts. As we lay there, that first summer day out in the field of wild flowers is brought back to us. All our troubles blow away in the breeze as we each sit up practically in unison. As I look into those beautiful brown eyes, I know that our love is eternal. All the signs of aging seem to fade as we gaze into each other’s hearts. Here, in the field, we are the newlyweds; rejoicing in our marriage as we start our life together.

As I lean in he pulls me closer and I am lost in the power of his lips on mine. Just as I was the first summer day we spent together in the field, and as I will be for all the days to come, living my own happily ever after.
