 Day Three

(Excerpt from Day 1)

They both got in the car and proceeded towards the smoke. The closer they got, the darker the smoke suddenly became. The road was curved around a large hill and the fire was just on the other side of it. As they looped around the hill, they soon discovered that the fire was coming from a burning car and it was closer to the road than they thought it was.

Marko: Lets put more distance between that car and us; it looks like it could explode at any moment.

Stretch drove the car off the road but proceeded further, and as he did, 2 more vehicles became visible, but they weren’t on fire like the other one was. One of the cars looked as if it had impacted the hill and was stuck. It was a Jeep Wrangler. The other car was an old Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was an narrow open field and the Grand Cherokee was stopped in the center of it. Smoke arose from both of them. Stretch reported the accident over the radio.

Marko: What the hell happened here? An accident?

Stretch: Something’s telling me this wasn’t an accident. It doesn’t look like any of the 3 cars came in contact with each other at all.

Marko: Yeah, I guess that makes sense.

Stretch: Lets check it out.

Stretch and Marko got out of the car with their guns drawn.

Stretch: I’ll check the one further up the hill.

Marko: Alright.

Skeptically, Marko made his way closer towards the Grand Cherokee. He approached it on the passenger side and found the driver lying nearly dead, with several bullet wounds in his chest. Marko requested paramedics over his radio and opened the passenger door to get a closer look. He examined the wounds and noticed that they were indeed critical. He new he wouldn’t have much longer but somehow, he was still awake.

Marko: What happened here?

The elderly driver struggled to talk, but with each syllable that escaped from his mouth, so did the blood that he coughed up.

Injured Man: I sss…. stopped to help that black sedan over there. It broke down and I was having trouble getting it to start up with the pair of jumper cables I had. Then this other car came along; the one on that hill over there. He offered to help me. Right when we tt… tried getting the car started, some middle-aged looking British man who was walking up the road came up behind us and held a gun up to us and asked us for all of our money. We obeyed him, but he shot at us anyway.

The man began to doze off and his breathing rate was beginning to shorten.

Marko: I need to go see what my partner is doing. I’ll be right back. Paramedics are on the way.

Injured Man: I ss--- shot him. He didn’t go down.

The driver’s words were mumbled and very hard to understand.

Marko: What?

Injured Man: He stood right by my side of the window… and I shot him. I shot him three times in the head and once in the neck. He didn’t go down. The bullets… just seeped out of his skin like water and the wounds healed immediately. It was… unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.
