A tribute to the transient nature of time

She walks in sync

With the song on her lips

The solemn heartbeat of the universe...

As her hands persist

In ruling all that exists –

That master of puppeteers!

Empires rise and fall to decay

Beneath her firm stride.

But she moves on unmoved –

She moves on unscathed –

Waiting for none – like the tide.

Her haunting eyes remain undaunted

By the history that surrounds her,

As she pierces through the fog

Of the past and to-be

With equal grace, equal ease

She watched as men

Became legends, and legends

To myth and mortality fell –

Her memories the only record

Of tales no one will tell.

No tears smudge her cheek

To see men die tragic deaths.

No smile lights her eyes

As babies their first steps tread.

For she has seen them come, and seen them go

Like waves lapping a silent shore –

Little things like joy and sorrow

Don’t matter to her anymore.

A distant viewer

A silent scribe

Is all she’ll ever be!

As she trudges on ruthlessly

Making fools out of men many.

She dances about the universe wide –

In a dark, terrible romance she engages –

As she continues to be, forever more –

A silent beat, a forgotten song –

The symphony of the ages.
