Ella finds a Dragon Egg and raises the dragon inside of it. Will she find the love in her heart to let it go and be free?

Dragon Love

\"Goodnight Mom!\" I called as my mother sent me to bed. It was late, and I had something to hide. Under my bed, there was a dragon egg. I planned on raising the baby dragon inside, letting it grow. Then, I would keep it as my own.

I decided not to mess with it tonight. It was just an egg, it wasn't able to do anything, so there was no point in trying to make it do tricks or talk, or anything like it.

I fell asleep in a matter of five minutes. I woke up to a rumbling under my bed. What was happening? It was still dark out. Was it an earthquake? No, my bed was the only thing shaking.

I looked under my bed and there was a baby dragon. It had hatched. I would raise it and take it as my own. It was a green baby dragon with beautiful green and yellow wings. It hopped onto my bed and began to coo.

\"Aw, hey there,\" I said stroking him. I named him Alessandro.

Month one: No one has realized I had a dragon yet. It's hard to believe since he's gotten so big.

Month two: Still, no one's noticed. Alessandro stands from my feet to about my chest.

Month four: I think people are becoming suspicious. He comes up to my nose now.

Month five: My mother found out when she found a burnt parchment in my room. She wasn't happy. Alessandro is taller than me by about a head now.

Month six: My mother sat me down for a talk. I sat and she said, \"Ella, Alessandro is too big. Actually, he never should have come into the house. He belongs in the wild, where the other dragons are. If you don't let him pursue his nature, then soon he will become a destruction,\" she said soothingly.

I bit my lip. I knew she was right. \"Okay Mom,\" I said as tears emerged from my eyes. I had become so attached to him. It would be hard to let him go with a possibility of never seeing him again. But I knew that if I truly loved him, I would let him go.

The next morning, I walked Alessandro to an open plain. I was beginning to cry, I could feel it. \"Alessandro, I am going to let you fly free and go to your own kind. But you have to promise me something. Promise me you will come back once a month, just so I can see you.\" Alessandro squawked as a yes, he promised. And he kept his promise. Alessandro came back for me every month for forever and eternity.

Future Compost Heap

I can never take the name "Ella" seriously after Friends.

I chose the name Ella because it is a very pretty name and was the first one that came to mind. If you cannot take the name seriously, than that's not my problem.
I am sorry if that sounded harsh, I just woke up.

I really like this story and I love dragons....

But as someone who loves to offer her opinion, not in a "I'm so smart" way, but in the way where it's just a suggestion, I'd like to offer some advice.
First, you TELL me everything- like when you said- "I looked under my bed and there was a baby dragon." That's like stating a fact in a History book, and not to sound harsh, but I despise reading facts in my History book. You should spice it up a bit, make it ALIVE!

For example-
I drifted into a heavy slumber in a matter of five minutes. But it wasn't long before I was woken up by a deep rumbling. My eyes snapped open to see that I was in my pitch-black bedroom. The bed vibrating beneath me gave my body a tingling feeling. Hazily glancing around, I saw that none of the other furniture was moving. "Wait, what is going on here?" I thought to myself. A picture of a dragon egg flashed through my mind, awaking my entire body to excitement.

Abruptly, the vibrating stopped, and I stood frozen in place, my shaking hands gripping the satin sheets beneath me. With all of the bravery I could muster, I took hold of the edge of the bed and peered into the darkness beneath my bed that hid the baby dragon. My searching eyes met flashing golden eyes that reflected like a cat's. I whipped my head back up above the bed, breaking my gaze with the dragons', the blood rushing to my head so suddenly I nearly toppled out of bed.

Hesitantly, I put a foot onto the floor and soon my body followed. With soft clicks and clacks, I tried to tease the baby dragon out from under the bed. After five minutes of trying I gave up and propped my back against my bedroom wall, determined to wait for the dragon to come out.

It wasn't long before I spotted a scaly muzzle peeping out of the darkness. Being careful not to move a muzzle, I waited till the entire dragon's body was revealed. The moonlight flowing through my window reflected off of it's emerald scales, nearly blinding me. Only the size of a full-grown cat, I watched as it sneaked closer to me and nuzzled my freezing toes.

With that first touch, I already felt a bond growing between me and the baby dragon. A random name flickered through my mind and I immediately tasted the name on my tongue, "Alessandro." The emerald dragon perked at the name, peering at me with it's liquid golden cat eyes. "Alessandro," I answered to the dragon's interest. "It's your name."
Do you like it? Of course, you don't have to take any of my suggestions. Just wanted to help. :-)
I hope to read more of your wonderful writings.

Mistress of Word Play

Nice job on the story. My grandaughter's name is Ella so that made it really special for me. I wrote one for this challenge as well. Not as good as yours. Good luck. Susan :)
