I’m a girl little named Zoe;
I’m not made up of sugar and spice;
my pets are mostly lizards, and frogs;
and yes, even white mice
My mother complains
“Little girls should always wear dresses,
and have their hair neatly combed daily,
in cute curly tresses.
Little girls should play with baby dolls;
keeping their clothes clean.”
“Mommy, to never get dirty or windblown,
sounds awful, and simply mean.
I love my blue jeans and tee-shirts;
I think they are fine;
If you make me wear dresses,
I will pout, and I will whine.
Why, who could climb trees
and crawl on the ground;
with no pockets to hold
all the treasure I’ve found?”
I like to run through mud puddles;
making them splash;
I couldn’t do that in dress;
with white lace and a sash!
Wearing a dress, all frilly and nice;
I couldn’t play fun games;
Like baseball or leap frog;
they’d laugh;and call me names.
No one wants a girlie girl on their side,
when choosing teams.
A girl, who remains all dainty and clean,
to me certainly seems;
afraid to get dirty; or mess her hair;
can’t have very much fun.
All she can do is just watch the other kids;
jump, tumble; skip and run.
