The soft pitter-patter of the

gentle rain, falls rhythmically upon

my weathered old roof...

Gazing out my stained old single

pane, the earth is covered in

a blanket of leaves from a fall I'll

soon forget, leaves from the darkest

brown, to the most brilliant oranges,

lay in what will soon become

mulch, for future life...

Rising up from among the dead and

dying, is a gnarled old cottonwood,

full of stories, but sharing isn't its thing...

It's branches reach out in so many

directions, like the arms of a room full

school children saying, "pick me, pick me"...

The gray clouds overhead, swirl in an angry

gray mass, changing shapes, dancing, rolling

seeming to come alive, protesting their birth...

I slowly leave my reverie, and drift off to a

pleasant, but fitful sleep...

Thoughts of you are my blanket, your

hands my pillow, your lips my dream...
