As Sam sat down to lunch, it occurred to her that she had grossly over-dished. She had been far too greedy when emptying the remains of the previous evening’s meal and now she sat down to hefty portion of left over homemade chicken curry. And it was quite delicious, although with it being such large portion, quite useless in the battle to shed some pounds and finally be skinny. All her friends were now thinner than she was and she was now, the least fit for the longest period in her life since beginning the colossal battle to lose weight in the first place.

But back to lunch. A few bites in and a colleague, Garth came into the kitchen. Sniffing around at the delicious smell emanating from her meal, he sidled over and curiously gazed at her plate. ‘Curry, is it?’, he chirped. ‘Yup’, was all Sam could manage around a mouthful of naan bread. ‘Homemade?’, he questioned. Sam nodded. ‘From scratch, spices and everything?’, he continued. Sam pondered. No, she hadn’t made it from scratch. She had merely fried the chicken for a bit then covered it with sauce from a jar and left it to simmer. Standard procedure. But Garth had a look of surprise and admiration in his eye. But still, why lie? ‘No’, she shook her head. ‘From curry paste?, he pressed. She inwardly shrugged. This was a happy compromise. ‘Yes’, she replied. ‘Nice work!’, Garth praised. And he left.
