Yellow

I can’t stand the color yellow.

Not because I dislike the color yellow, but because it reminds me of something.

Something that aches.

The color yellow is sunflowers, laughing, and warmth.

The color yellow is a tender kiss across my lips in a room of dancing people.

The color yellow is the barking of a dog I had yet to befriend.

The color yellow is the waves of dried grass along a hillside.

The color yellow is a field of corn and a flash of a phone.

The color yellow is a future I saw, with a white dress flowing down an isle.

The color yellow is a zip-up hoodie.

The color yellow is flecks of gold in a pair of beautiful green eyes.

The color yellow is the words “I love you.”

The color yellow was happiness.

The color yellow is conflicting ideals.

The color yellow is raised voices.

The color yellow is hurtful words.

The color yellow is a deafening silence.

The color yellow is the warmth of a familiar body walking out the door.

The color yellow is the sad end to an amazing chapter in my favorite book.

The color yellow is the hope that one day I'll be able to read that chapter fondly.

The color yellow is the words “I loved you, and a part of me always will.”

The color yellow was and still is happiness,  but just in memories now.

The color yellow is an ache.

An ache that reminds me of something.

I can’t stand the color yellow.
