Twas the night before the first day of school

When all through the house,

Not a TV was blaring,

Not even a bleep.

The children were nestled,

All snug in their beds,

With visions of

New adventures danced in their heads.

The backpacks were stuff with new school supplies galore,

Along with new outfits,

And an extra pair of underwear too!

Parents lie and bed and wonder,

“Did I remember to pack his lunch?”

Did she want water or punch?”

“Was the bologna put out to thaw?”

“Is there enough milk for us all?”

Pondering parents wonder themselves into a tizzy,

While time slowly, ticks away.

And we finally come to realize,

It’s okay; it’s only the first day.
