The Travels of Autumn
It is the time of the year for all leaves to travel away from their trees, it is autumn. One specific leaf was the most beautiful leaf you ever did see. It came from a maple tree. This leaf had the most mesmerizing assortment of autumn colors. Its coat had a perfect blend of light brown, banana yellow, apple red, and just a hint of the radiant green it once had. When it was time for that little leaf to go, it went so smoothly that not even the largest or the smallest creature noticed its departure.
Once it left the tree it spent so much time with, it floated along with no one knowing where it would stop. It was tossed and turned, sometimes violently by the wind. It travelled past the red barn and the weeping willow tree until it finally landed in a river.
It landed with such grace and beauty that the ripples in that clear, blue river looked as if a tear had fallen into the river. That simple yet extravagant leaf travelled ever so gently down the river.
Soon the little leaf reached a waterfall from the river which dumped into a gorgeous big lake. The leaf started down the waterfall but the wind caught a hold of it and the leaf was sent on its way again. It travelled all the way to herd of wild horses. It landed next to a mother horse grazing with her young one on the green grass. They were both beautifully painted horses, the young one had brown circle like a crown on top of its solid white head.
As soon as they were done grazing, those two gorgeous horses and all the rest of the herd of horses charged off. They all ran with the wind brushing their hair back as if it was in slow motion. When they had run off into the horizon, the little leaf was thrust up into the air and was found by the wind again.
It travelled far and wide, rocking in the wind, gently then violently. Finally it reached a perfect little white 2-story house in the middle of two great hills. It had a screened porch around the front and sides. In the back was a beautiful little pond filled with orange and white fish. There was one window open in the back on the second story. That radiant little leaf squeezed into the window that white house. It floated down the stairs through door after door.
It was Thanksgiving night and there was the aroma of beautifully cooked turkey, perfectly mashed potatoes, wonderfully stuffed stuffing, radiant green beans, and magnificently rising rolls. The little leaf landed right next to the gorgeous orange pumpkin pie. One woman came in to get the pie. She saw that perfect gorgeous leaf and she saw its beauty and taped it onto the window facing the sun. It would let it the most magnificent rays of light from its various colors. And it stayed there till it couldn’t stay there anymore.
