From the ashes she rose

Pushing through the thick burning veld, she rose

She had seen war

The turmoil that was her life

Gingerly she staggered, so as not to smolder her bruised skin on the scotching coal

The earth was charred

So was her heart

The blaze came

The blaze went

And with it, it took her youth, her beauty, and her innocence

But her soul remained forever pure

Hidden beneath her thick skin

She stood like a warrior looking into the beyond

The ancient

She drew her first breath as a free woman and staggered on

Cos she knew he was not coming

He was never to come

For he was now one with the earth!
