The profound is from the trivial,

Our blood from their sweat,

Their wounds from our machetes,

Our burns from their torches.

The doldrums we are from the summit

And friends we were now foes.

Now in the tent from our houses,

To fathom penury from opulence.

A loving ism from a hating leader.

From you to me there is anger,

From me to you; betrayal,

From you to him; revenge,

From here to there destruction,

From Monday to Sunday; massacre.

All this leads to abdication

And from all these, hope.

From the ashes of our houses,

Flesh and bones is the birth of life.

Our seedling of faith germinates to a plant of hope,

A hope that today’s understanding is tomorrow’s freedom.
