Dear diary

I have decided once again that i have missed my calling.

My true place in life is with our personnel team as Head of Recruitment.

In todays thriving telecommunications industry it is vital that we employ people with the right skills for the job.

My first task would be to change the interview process.

Gone would be that cosy face to face chat. Instead it would be one interviewer sat behind a desk and one interviewee and a standard company issue chair. Thus affording the interviewer an advantage as the interviewee would never be able to sit comfortably.

One spotlight quick fire general knowledge round should weadle out the no hopers to begin with.

This would be followed by a combined maths test and role play.

Mrs X changes her price plan on ..... date in her billing period. Calculate her pro rata minutes for her first bill and explain pro rata to Mrs X. Deduct points for every time the customer says "but", "why", or "why wasnt i told this before".

Only the select few with their wits about them should survive this round.

The final interview stage - the obstacle course.

Eache interviewee is requested to arrive at the gate for a set time where they will be given instructions. Their challenge is to find a parking space in the official car park, and make their way up to the work floor. Once there they have just 15 minutes to find a free desk with a working phone and computer, and a chair that can be adjusted correctly, start up the computer and follow log on instructions.

A time penalty will be added for every time they have to move due to faulty equipment or team managers request.

At the end of this rigorous selection process, should there still be anyone left who actually wants the job - simply place a call for the yellow van with the men in long white coats to come and collect them.
