This is the story of Solomon Foy,
A very peculiar, unusual boy.

The strangest ideas flew into his head
Like the day that his mother called to him and said:

"Solomon, Solomon, please don't be bold!
Come in for your supper before it gets cold.
Tonight it's your favourite - you know what that means?
Solomon, Solomon - sausage and beans!"

"Sausage and beans? But I can't eat that.
That's not the right supper for Solomon Cat."

"A cat?" said his mother. "Is that what you said?
In that case I'll make you a mouse pie instead."

"MOUSE PIE?? EWWWWW!!!"

"I'm not a cat, mum. You heard me all wrong.
I'm Solomon Puppy who plays all day long."

"A puppy? My goodness! I'll get on the phone
And ask Butcher Bob to deliver a bone."

"A BONE?? EWWWWW!!!"

"I really don't think I'm a dog after all
I'm Solomon Elephant twenty feet tall."

"Well, before you come in here please take off your boots,
And I'll make you a salad of grass, leaves, and roots."

"GRASS, LEAVES, AND ROOTS?? EWWWWW!!"

"Did I say an elephant? A dreadful mistake.
I'm really a slithery Solomon Snake."

"A snake in my kitchen? We couldn't have that.
So out on the doorstep I'll leave you a rat."

"A RAT?? EWWWWW!!!"

"I'm not a snake, mum. You must have misheard.
I'm really a feathery Solomon Bird."

"Then perch on the table, I'll make a surprise.
A cake filled with insects and spiders and flies."

"INSECTS AND SPIDERS AND FLIES?? EWWWWW!!!"

"Eh, mum?"

"Yes, Solomon?"

"I'm not really a dog or a bird or a cat
Nor a snake or an elephant, nothing like that.
I'm really a tired and hungry young boy."

"Then come into my kitchen, dear Solomon Foy.
Sit down at the table and then by all means
Eat up all your supper of sausage and beans."
