On days like these
When vanished leaves are all I see,
And they all say they envy me,
The wind chills straight through my bones
And I stop answering ringing telephones,
When nostalgia sweeps over my cold heart,
And I remember sister's art,
And all those empty shopping carts.
And I remember gray Christmas'
Despite the things my parents did,
And I remember chocolate milk
After babies ripped the silk,
And I remember three days he wasn't home,
That one night she wasn't alone,
When my sisters and I were on our own.
And I remember cheese casadillas late at night
While we listened to our parents fight,
And I swore I'd never tell
The reason why I wasn't well,
Because it wasn't just as bad
As all the troubles the world has had.
And I remember days like today
The harsh tones in the things they say
As I watch my sisters play.
I remember so many dreams,
Of the way the leaves fell off the trees,
When I remember days like these.
