“No” was the only word ever mumbled from their lips
For common knowledge, common sense had been eclipsed
with unforgiving smiles, their sincerity was clear
they say ignorance is bliss, but bliss is only fear
without knowledge of the darkness, you miss seeing the light
blind eyes cannot see what is wrong or what is right
She knew better than most; she knew better than I
They never saw her crumble, they never saw her cry
I carried that burden, I caught her tears and heard her thoughts
How could I not?
I could never turn away from her, she meant far too much
My knees weakened and I fell under with every touch
She had the smile of an angel, and the heart of just a girl
The diamonds in her eyes mapped out acrylic swirls
Only for artists to love and just adore
For she was something more,
she was mine
If this was true I'd be more than fine
Her smile took my breath, but I could never touch those lips
I wasn't worthy, or so they say
I agreed with this, but neither were they
We were close, so close I nearly loved her
But I never had the chance, though she was unlike all the others
She was my happiness and now I know
That my happiness is my woe.
