Look at all the kids
Who think they're "so cool"
I shake my head sadly,
Wishing they could understand
I look at you and smile
You, a real treasure
Amidst a bunch of tarnished jewelry
You are so unique
You are truly cool
Tender on the inside
And bubbly on the outside
You always take the time
To listen to what I have to say
You are always there
To help me when I fall
You are a reminder
That popular opinion
Isn't necessarily right
You make me remember
Appearances aren't what matter
Because our heart
Defines our beauty
I look at you and smile
Your eyes full of hope
Your ears willing to listen
You are truly beautiful
Incredible in every way
You'll always be my Abra!

Beautiful Simplicity:
Well written. Interestingly presented as well.
Thank you for reminding of my adolescence, the angst and why all of my memories of it are not entirely happy.
The good news, as I passed through my 20s, was gaining the realization that all I had to do to escape them was live long enough. Something about which every teenager should remind themselves as they too take that same emotional roller coaster ride.
While I still have many fine and loyal friends from my teenage years, in high school, the same can also be said for college. People can change and mature so that, later, they are easier to like. Unhappy events can transform themselves into happier memories. Though not always.
One of the big advantages of college is that, by the time you graduate, you have become a young adult with, hopefully, many new and wonderful friends. Along with many new skills, freedoms and responsibilities. And you have left your adolescence behind.
Another job well done.
Happy trails,
Ed Bradley.
