This is an essay that I'm writing for my english class and I need some feedback. It's supposed to be a sort personal narrative, just talking about yourself. I'm not sure if it is interesting/creative enough. It's also not completely finished. Thanks!

They say that looks can be deceiving.  Don’t judge a book by its cover, because it’s what on the inside that counts.  At first glance, something could look fantastic.  It could be shades of the most brilliant colors, beautiful-looking, really.  But on the inside it could be made of ash.  Crumbling, with no structure.  It could be a mess.  Or it could be the opposite; the falling-apart, rat infested house could be home to the closest-knit, happy family.

I find that in today’s society people are afraid to acknowledge the obvious.  We are trapped under this umbrella of rules; they range from anything:  what you are allowed to think, how you are allowed to speak, what you should wear in public and what you shouldn’t.  Here’s what’s amazing:  society has put all of these rules into place, but at the same time, we aren’t allowed to judge anyone for breaking this social code.  Isn’t that one of the “best” traits to have?  People try to come off like they don’t judge, but we all do it, consciously or not.

I’ll be the first to admit it.  I judge people.I do it all the time.  It’s human nature to react to other human actions.  But, if you could only listen to me, you wouldn’t expect it.  I’m soft-spoken, not shy—that’s something that I want to address about myself.  Shy is different, shy is fear.  I’m not scared to speak, I just don’t want to.  I don’t say much in class, or in big groups of people.  I just watch and listen.  I see things, and I understand.  I think things, things that I hope can be kept to myself…only it doesn’t work that way.  If you could see me, you would be able to tell exactly what I was thinking.  It’s all on my face.  So, the cover can easily portray the book that is myself.

I’m an expressive person.  I’m the girl who always gets called out on for giving dirty looks, even though I don’t mean it.  I can’t help it!  When my teacher tells us that we’re going to be doing a peer-editing workshop or that we’re going to be reading another predictable piece of American literature, a look of disgust is inevitable.  When somebody wears a revealing outfit and then complains that people are staring at them I’m going to roll my eyes.  It comes naturally to me.  I can’t always immediately think of the words, so my face does it for me.
