Soliloquy

Have you ever waited for something?

Seemingly forever, knowing you dare not faint;

Nor abandon your treasure.

The great adversary, also aware;

Willing to do anything to impede truth:

Sojourning thoughts, seizing reason -

Then the mercenaries draw near, attuning truth to fallacy.

The great perpetual war!!

***

The Raven came to visit yet again, his wrath immense.

Much to my dismay, he prolonged his stay.

Too late I grasped his deceitful plan:

Forcing submission to his scam.

In vain I strived restraining,

Only to plunge deeper in his snare.

The dark militia mocking my solitude,

Sneering at all that I hold sacred,

Revealing corpses of dreams lost,

Engulfing me with fear:

Amplifying my seeming nemesis!

Hopeless indeed this battle did proceed,

Beguiling lunacy as the void of you clung to wretchedness.

Grateful to Heaven, reminding me this Revelation:

"Him that overcommeth will I make a pillar..."

My heart woke: Entice me not with deceits!  What you offer is evil.

Abruptly the charge halted,

Amazed at avant-garde resistance,

Bewildered by the sudden credence:  Be gone!

Chaos reigned as darkness fled.

A monsoon of dust choked the air,

Propelled away by waking faith:

May the Holy Cross be my light!

Numbness receded as light shattered through...

Foreseeing Hope returning to her rostrum, and

Love reclaiming her strength.

"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three;

But the greatest of these is love."

For "many waters cannot quench love,

Neither can the floods drown it."

***

Henceforth I will endeavor to persist the Light,

Truth remains, there is none to dread:

"For in the secret of His tabernacle shall he hide me."

And "by thee I have run through a troop,

and by my God have I leaped over a wall."

A whisper soft, so sweet I heed:

"In returning and rest shall ye be saved;

and in quietness and confidence shall be your strength."

Freedom from strive proclaimed!
