I watched from my bedroom window as the snow fell gracefully from the sky onto the ground below. I had been confined to my bedroom after a particularly funny prank on the chef’s snooty assistant. I sighed grumpily as I remembered my punishment. I had had my sword and horse taken away until I had “earned the right to have them.” I sighed again when I saw all of the village kids running in the soft white blanket. I spotted my friends Mickey and Slander Farlake making a snowman which looked suspiciously like Daniel Brighten. Mickey saw me and waved enthusiastically. She had helped me out with the prank and I was annoyed that she had gotten away with it. I kept on looking and saw James Robert and Daniel Brighten near the stables where James worked. They were currently in the middle of an extremely violent snow-ball fight. I watched wistfully as they hit each other with snow, wishing I could be out there with them. I turned my attention back to Mickey and Slander to find them excitedly jumping on their snowman. Now I was sure that it was supposed to look like Daniel. Daniel and the Farlake twins didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye. I grinned as I saw Slander push Mickey to one side and spread his arms in… victory? No, not victory. Red stained the pure white snow as children ran and Slander fell to the ground. Mickey screamed and ran to her brother. Soon, more red stained the ground and she lay next to him, holding his dead hand in her own equally dead one. Panicked, I looked over to where Daniel and James had been. They were gone. No red was on the snow so they at least weren’t dead, but where were they? I couldn’t take this anymore. I needed to get down there. I needed to avenge my best friend’s death. I took a good look around my room and found my necklace. I attached it around my neck and jumped out of the window.

It was a long way to the ground. I landed with a loud thump and had to take a moment to get my bearings. By this time the attacking men had turned their attention to two figures in the woods. I gasped in horror when I realised who they were. It was Daniel and James. I heard the sound of foreign weapons being blasted. I hid my face in my hands as I heard the thump of two bodies hitting the soft earth. I didn’t know when I had started crying, but I couldn’t find the strength to stop.

Slander. Mickey. Daniel. James.

They all lay dead on the ground for me to see. I couldn’t just stand here and watch what these people were doing. I gathered my courage and looked up into the eyes of the men who had killed my friends. They would pay for that. They would pay dearly. I was furious. My eyes glowed as I looked at these sick men. My body heated to an unbearable temperature. They pointed a foreign object at me. I felt like I was going to explode. My hair whipped in the wind that had sprung up. My eyes never wavered from the men in front of me. A Shot was fired. I released all of my energy. It sped across the ground with the force of a tsunami. The men were picked up as if they were nothing more than rag dolls. I saw an instant of realisation in their eyes before they were swallowed by the energy of the magic I had let loose.

It was over quickly. They were gone. I sank to the ground as the shock hit me. Tears fell from my eyes. I had done this. This was my fault. I was the reason my friends were dead. This happened because I was a monster. I was the bad apple of my family. I was a witch.
